Beating the Heat with Oil-Filled Coils

Beating the Heat with Oil-Filled Coils

Heat is the silent enemy of ignition reliability. While Tri-Spark electronic ignitions are engineered with sophisticated dwell control to prevent coils from overheating, many riders still utilise older technology—including traditional points or standard fixed-dwell systems that leave the coils "turned on" for excessively long periods.

When a coil stays energised too long, it generates significant internal heat. This is where our Oil-Filled Coils truly shine.

Why Oil beats Epoxy in high-heat applications:

  • Superior Dissipation: Oil is a far more efficient heat conductor than epoxy. It transfers internal heat to the outer casing much faster, keeping the windings at a safer operating temperature.

  • The Solution for Points & Entry-Level Electronic Systems: If your current ignition lacks the sophisticated dwell management found in Tri-Spark units, these coils provide a much-needed safety margin against overheating.

  • Internal Arcing Protection: Oil is an excellent insulator. These coils are more robust and less likely to fail from internal arcing—even if an HT lead accidentally becomes disconnected.

  • Modern Build, Classic Look: We’ve combined old-school oil insulation with modern CNC-wound plastic bobbins for superior durability, all housed in a classic 40mm cylindrical can.

Whether you're sticking with points or looking for a more "forgiving" coil to pair with a cheaper alternative ignition system, our 4V, 6V, and 12V oil-filled options are the ultimate insurance policy for your ignition system.
