The Tri-Spark Classic Twin is a reliable electronic ignition system for classic British motorcycles, replacing the original points and condenser system. Designed for easy starting, accurate ignition timing and reliable operation, it is compatible with a wide range of Triumph, Norton and BSA twins and singles. Made in Australia with a 3-year warranty.

Product Description

Classic Twin Ignition

The Classic Twin is the result of many years developing electronic ignition systems specifically for classic motorcycles. It is a compact, reliable system designed to replace the original points and automatic advance mechanism, with no points or condenser to maintain.

The system includes a built-in self-test function and LED timing indicator, making installation and timing adjustment straightforward.

The Classic Twin is suitable for a wide range of classic Triumph, Norton, BSA and Enfield motorcycles, including:

  • Triumph unit twins: T100, T120, TR7RV, T140 Bonneville, Tiger and Daytona
  • Norton: Atlas and Commando 1968–75
  • Enfield: Interceptor
  • BSA unit twins: A65 and A50
  • BSA singles: B25, B40, B44 and B50
  • Triumph singles: Tiger Cub

The system operates on 12-volt positive or negative earth/ground electrical systems.

Coils, leads and spark plug caps

For twin-cylinder engines, we recommend using two Tri-Spark high-performance coils. Our 6-volt coils are designed to work with the Classic Twin without the need for ballast resistors.

We also supply spark plug leads with either right-angle or straight coil ends, together with suitable spark plug caps.

For single-cylinder applications, the Classic Twin can be used with our 12-volt high-performance coil, along with the appropriate spark plug lead and cap.

Starting performance

The Classic Twin has been designed with easy starting in mind. Its starting characteristics help the engine start cleanly from the first kick, while also reducing the risk of kickback when starting.

What's included

The Classic Twin kit includes:

  • Tri-Spark stator unit, replacing the original points plate
  • Tri-Spark trigger rotor, replacing the automatic advance unit and points cam
  • 16-page illustrated installation and instruction booklet
  • Wiring terminals and other hardware required for installation

Crankshaft configurations

The standard Classic Twin is designed for parallel-twin engines with a 360-degree crankshaft.

It can also be adapted for engines with an offset crank, including 270-degree configurations, by using our Offset Crank Rotor. When ordering, specify the required crank angle and motorcycle model in the order notes.

Twin-plug heads

The Classic Twin can also be supplied for twin-plug cylinder heads. Please contact us to discuss the requirements for your engine.
