The Ultimate Charging Upgrade for Classic British Motorcycles

Upgrade your classic British motorcycle’s charging system with modern solid-state technology. This heavy-duty MOSFET regulator/rectifier replaces outdated zener diode and plate rectifier systems with a single, highly efficient unit. Enjoy accurate voltage regulation, improved charging performance and significantly less heat, for a more reliable electrical system and longer battery life.

Product Description

MOSFET Regulator/Rectifier

Upgrade your classic motorcycle's charging system with modern solid-state technology. This heavy-duty MOSFET regulator/rectifier replaces the traditional zener diode and separate plate rectifier with a single, efficient unit that provides accurate voltage regulation with much less heat.

Conventional diode regulators can dissipate more than 20 watts as heat under normal charging conditions. The MOSFET design used in the Tri-Spark unit operates much more efficiently and runs significantly cooler, making it suitable for installation in confined spaces such as under a seat or behind a side panel.

Key Features

  • 20-amp capacity: Rated at 20 amps, providing ample capacity for common 10A, 14.5A and 16A stators.
  • Efficient and compact: The 80 x 67 x 20 mm housing runs cool and can be fitted in a range of locations where space is limited.
  • Long heavy-gauge wiring: Supplied with 60 cm of heavy-gauge wiring in dual protective sleeving, allowing plenty of flexibility when routing the wiring.
  • Universal polarity: Suitable for both positive and negative earth/ground electrical systems.
  • 2-year warranty: Supplied with detailed wiring and installation instructions and backed by a 2-year warranty.

Compatibility

The Tri-Spark MOSFET regulator/rectifier is suitable for 12-volt permanent-magnet alternators using either a single-phase (2-wire) or three-phase (3-wire) stator, with an output of up to 20 amps.

It is suitable for many of the Lucas charging systems used on classic Triumph, Norton, BSA, Royal Enfield, Matchless and other British motorcycles, including:

  • RM21 – 10-amp single phase
  • RM23 – 16-amp single phase
  • RM24 – 14.5-amp three phase

Dimensions and Mounting

  • Body size: 80 x 67 x 20 mm
  • Mounting hole centres: 64 mm
  • Wiring length: 60 cm

Installation and Frequently Asked Questions

Positive or Negative Earth?

The Tri-Spark MOSFET regulator/rectifier works with both positive and negative earth/ground electrical systems. There is no need to select a different unit when converting a motorcycle from positive to negative earth.

What if my stator has two wires?

The regulator/rectifier can be used with both two-wire single-phase and three-wire three-phase stators.

When used with a two-wire stator, leave the yellow wire disconnected. Trim the unused wire to a suitable length and seal the end with heat-shrink tubing.

The regulator automatically operates correctly with the two active stator wires.

Always refer to the supplied wiring instructions for your particular motorcycle before connecting the unit.

Testing and Installation Video

Watch the video above to see the Tri-Spark MOSFET regulator/rectifier tested against a conventional diode regulator. The test demonstrates the difference in power dissipation and operating temperature between the two designs.
